Mindful Mind for Better Health and Fitness

The human mind is the most powerful, skillful, and creative machine in the world. All the scientific, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and technological innovations have sprung out of the mind located within a handful size brain. Yet, the forces called lethargy, procrastination, and fear can defeat the mind within a few seconds. They prevent us from reaching our full potential and achieving our desired goals in life. Now, the question is how to overcome these blocks which are of course the creations of our own mind. Here are a few simple tricks I have tried and succeeded to a moderate extent.

Self Talking

The mind and body health connection starts when the early morning session is alive and active. I used to feel that mind sickness after I woke up. I used to turn off the alarm and extended my sleep. It did no good to me until I started waking up early in the morning. One fine morning I went for a long walk. Then I started jogging. Then I added a few simple workout programs to my early morning schedule. Today I spend almost two hours on the workouts in the morning from 5:00 to 7:00.

Self-talking for motivation has been the most important aspect of my life. I keep telling myself some simple things like

  • You have an active and agile body
  • Today is the best day of your life
  • Focus on the present and let go of past
  • Tomorrow is only a myth
  • You can only try to forget about the results
  • You have to make a beginning now
  • Keep your day simple
  • Failure is a way to learn from mistakes
  • No regrets
  • Every day is a new day

These are only a few of the things which I have listed here. There are many more things which I keep telling myself. It works like a hydraulic pump which keeps pushing my performance levels up the ladder. Of course, there are many days when I fail to start early. But I have made it a point to start from where I am and with what I have on hand.

Overcoming Negation

Overcoming negative thoughts is one of the toughest tasks of everyday life. The more I try to push them away, the stronger they become. The best way I have found is acceptance. I know it is not possible for me to avoid them. So, I just ignore them.

Inconsistency is the other trap which I often fall into. Sometimes I miss out on the workouts and regret doing that. The same regret pushes me to miss out on the next day’s session also. Then it becomes a habit and an addiction. It often takes months to resume my regular workouts. The day I stopped regretting, my workout programs became more consistent.

Today, my health and fitness levels are much better than before. At 47, my productivity is more than what it was at 26. I will share more of my experience with you in the next sessions. Take care.

Factors That Determine The Weight Of the Person

Factors That Determine The Weight Of the Person

The standard response to losing weight is to eat less and to exercise more. This is a good solution to burning up more calories and to restrict the calorie intake as it tends to use up the stored fat in the body. But often it is possible to see that this rather simple solution does not have much of an effect on people who seem overweight. It thus points to seeking answers to the problem from other than the simple solution of eating less and exercising more.

Genes are what people are born with and that cannot be controlled in any manner by the individual at any time. If a person has little trouble losing weight and tends to put back the weight back on soon after; then the answer lies in the genes that the person has inherited.  With a lot of the research going onto finding the right gene pool, it has been found that there are some 20 types of genetic composition that makes a person tend to be overweight.

Whereas the genes cannot be controlled; by understanding the gene make up most of the time, it is possible to better adapt the lifestyle of the individual to help control well the body weight and mass. Modern systems are so suited to have a look at the most basic of genes that are present in a person.

Understanding the Body Metabolism

It was the basic premise that as people ate less and burned more energy, they tended to lose weight. But this theory does not take into account the changes that take place in the body metabolism when the calorie intake is reduced and also when the exercise levels are increased. This effect tends to act in different ways with different people and often the routine of eating less and exercising more tends to produce results which are less dependable than anything else.

The body metabolism differs in each individual and with different diets as well. So the act of people tending to measure up the calorie intake and trying to apply mathematics to the act of losing weight tends to be rather absurd in this instance. The more logical thing is to have a holistic approach that tends to take the issue of weight control in a healthy manner.

Getting the Food Constituents Right

There is a popular concept that burning fat would mean eating less of fatty material. But if it says 150 calories that have to be removed daily from the diet, then what difference does it make if it is done from fats or carbohydrates or proteins?

Now removing proteins from the diet must be done carefully.  The reason is that less protein could mean less muscle mass in the body which could, in turn, mean lesser metabolism. Another factor with protein intake is that it tends to burn away energy much more by its very processing by the body and it is not exactly understood why.

Dieting is not the end all to losing body weight and it takes to better understand the body to do so most of the time. In the end, it is the balance achieved with diets that tend to be more effective in keeping weight well balanced.
